The method
A system for intentional makers.
The Only Brew Method is a structured approach to homebrewing that builds skill, discipline, and genuine appreciation — one batch at a time.
What the method is
Most homebrewing education focuses on recipes and equipment. The Only Brew Method focuses on the brewer. It is a curriculum built around the idea that the process of making something — not just the finished product — is where real learning happens.
The method is structured around four phases: intention, process, evaluation, and reflection. Each phase has its own tools, worksheets, and practices. Together, they form a complete system for developing as a maker.
The four phases
Intention
Before you brew, you plan. What style are you making? What ingredients will you use, and why? What do you want to learn from this batch? The intention phase turns a recipe into a deliberate act.
Process
The brew day is the classroom. The method gives you a structured way to observe, record, and learn from every step — from mash temperature to fermentation activity to final gravity.
Evaluation
When your beer, cider, mead, or wine is ready, you evaluate it systematically. Not just 'does it taste good?' but 'what did I do that produced this result, and what would I change?'
Reflection
The reflection phase closes the loop. You review your notes, identify patterns, and carry your learning into the next batch. Over time, this practice compounds into genuine mastery.
The eight-week curriculum
The Complete Only Brew Method includes an eight-week written curriculum that walks you through the method in sequence. Each week has a focus, a set of readings, and a practical assignment.
The curriculum is designed for brewers at any level — from first batch to fiftieth. It is not a recipe book. It is a practice guide.
